Many unopened presents, empty seats at Christmas dinner and parents living lives knowing that there is a part of them missing, forever. Many broken hearts beyond the 26 families in Newtown, Connecticut scarred forever by unthinkable tragedy. The horror of this day is unbearable. No words can console the parents of the children murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School. My heart goes out to all the parents who can never sing “Happy Birthday” to the the children ever again and everyone else affected so deeply by the tragedy.
For those who don’t know, a heavily armed gunman opened fire on children and staff in Newtown, Connecticut yesterday, December 14, 2012. killing at least 26 people, including 20 children aged between 5 and 10.
Many elementary school kids don’t like going to school and I can’t stop thinking about the morning routine where some of the parents had to convince their kids to go to Sandy Hook only to encounter a parent’s worst nightmare and to find that they will never see their kids alive again.
It is time to stand up to the culture of violence perpetuated by media, entertainment industry, video games, toy guns. It is time for some moral courage and courageous leaders who can participate in a meaningful discussion about gun laws to prevent gun violence and death in America. My thought and prayers are with those who are forever scarred and experiencing incomprehensible pain, shock, and sorrow because of this devastating tragedy.
